Littlebird is used by small children. We collect as little as we possibly can, and everything we do collect can be deleted by you at any time.
Who we are
Littlebird is an iPhone app operated from Australia. In this policy "we" and "us" mean Littlebird, and "you" means the parent or caregiver who holds the account. You can reach us at [email protected].
The account is yours, not your child's
Only an adult can create an account. Your child does not have an account, does not sign in, and is not expected to use the app on their own. You provide everything the app knows about your child, and you can remove it.
What we collect
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Your email address, from Sign in with Apple | So you can sign back in, and so we can contact you about your own account. If you use Apple's Hide My Email, we only ever see the relay address. |
| Your child's first name or nickname | So a character can greet them by name. |
| Your child's birth month and year | So a character can pitch itself at the right age. We deliberately do not ask for a full date of birth. |
| An accent preference | So characters sound like they are from where you live. |
| What you write before a call | To prepare the call. You can delete this at any time. |
| Details you choose to have remembered | So later calls feel familiar. Nothing is stored here unless you explicitly keep it. |
| Call records — when, which character, how long | To show you your own history and to measure usage. |
What we deliberately do not collect
We do not ask for, and characters are instructed never to accept, your child's surname, date of birth, address, location, school or daycare, phone number, or photographs. We do not request access to your contacts, your photo library, or your location. We do not use third-party analytics or advertising software of any kind, and we never sell data.
Voice and conversations
During a call, audio travels from your phone to OpenAI, who provide the speech model that gives the character its voice. This happens live, for the duration of the call, so the conversation can happen at all.
We do not record or store call audio. A text transcript is produced during the call so that we can offer you a few things worth remembering afterwards. That transcript is used for that purpose and is not saved to our systems. Only the details you actively choose to keep are stored, and only as the short sentences you can see and edit.
Who else is involved
- OpenAI — provides the speech and language models that power the conversation, and screens what you write before a call. Their API is configured so that data sent to it is not used to train models.
- Supabase — hosts our database and servers. Your data is stored in Sydney, Australia.
- Apple — provides Sign in with Apple and distributes the app.
These are the only third parties involved in running Littlebird.
Deleting things
Everything is removable from inside the app, immediately and without asking us:
- Any individual remembered detail, or all of them, from a character's page.
- Everything you have written before calls, from Settings.
- Your child's whole profile, including every character thread and everything remembered.
- Your entire account.
Deleting your account removes your account, your child's profile, every conversation record, and everything remembered. We keep anonymous totals of how many minutes were used, with every link to you removed, so that we can understand what the service costs to run. Those totals cannot be traced back to you or your child.
How long we keep things
We keep what you have given us for as long as your account exists. If you delete something, it is gone. If you delete your account, it is all gone apart from the de-identified totals described above.
Your rights
You can access, correct, export or delete your information. Most of that is immediate inside the app; for anything else, write to us at [email protected] and we will help. If you are in the UK or EU, you also have the right to object to processing and to complain to your local data protection authority. In Australia, you may complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Access to your data is restricted to your own account by database-level rules, and the keys that power the conversation are held on our servers and never placed inside the app.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top, and if the change is significant we will tell you in the app before it takes effect.
